Ask ten people in Martin County what "The Medalist" is and you will get two answers. Some mean the golf course. Some mean the neighborhood. They are not the same thing, and the gap between them is the single most important fact for anyone shopping for a home in Medalist Village.
This guide covers both. The community, the club that comes with it, the famous course that does not, and the kind of buyer who ends up happy here.

Medalist Golf Club opened in 1995. Greg Norman and Pete Dye designed it, Bobby Weed renovated it in 2015, and it has been the home club of Norman and Tiger Woods for years. It hosted The Match in 2020, the Woods and Manning versus Mickelson and Brady round that became the most watched cable golf event on record. Membership is by invitation. There is no public fee sheet, no public tee sheet, and no path to membership that runs through buying a house. We do not publish anything about its costs because nothing verifiable exists.
Medalist Village is the residential community that grew up beside it. Norman founded it too, and it borrows the name and the Old Florida feel. But the club a Village homeowner can join is Medalist Village Club, a separate operation with its own course, its own dues, and its own membership office.
Listing copy mixes these up constantly. If you read "home in the Medalist" and picture teeing it up on the course Tiger plays, stop and check which Medalist the listing means. It almost always means the Village.
For the buyer who understands the distinction, the Village Club is the real draw, and it is a different kind of club from the big country clubs down in Palm Beach Gardens.
The course. A Greg Norman designed par-3 short course, with multiple tee settings from about 70 to 200 yards on each hole. The club does not take tee times. You walk out and play. A round takes an hour or two, which is the point. It is built for short game work, for kids learning the game, and for the member who wants to play every afternoon without giving up the afternoon.
The practice area. Putting green, chipping zone, and practice bunkers.
Tennis. Two Har-Tru courts, weekly clinics, lessons, and no waiting list for court time in a club this size.
Spa and fitness. A resort-style spa and separate men's and women's fitness rooms.
Food. The Aussie Pub, a seasonal spot overlooking the course, plus club dining and a social calendar.
The membership office describes the club as family-first and casual, with young professionals, parents, and active retirees all in the mix. That is accurate. This is not a jacket-required club, and it is not trying to be.
Medalist Village is small. Roughly 100 homesites, all single-family, all custom or builder-custom, on lots from about a quarter acre to over half an acre. Views are preserve, golf, or lake. Because the community sits inside hundreds of acres of protected land, the preserve lots back onto nothing but pine and palmetto, and they will stay that way.
Homes were built over a couple of decades by several area builders, so styles vary more than in a single-builder community. You will see coastal, Mediterranean, and newer transitional designs on the same street. The upside is variety and lot privacy. The thing to check is the same as any custom-home community: who built it, what year, and what has been updated since. Roof age and impact glass matter here as much as anywhere in Martin County, and our post on buying during hurricane season covers exactly what to ask.
Pricing moves with lot size, view, and build year. We keep numbers off this page on purpose because they change; ask us for current sales and active listings and we will send real figures.
This trips up out-of-town buyers, so here it is plainly.
The homeowners association maintains the gate, the roads, the common landscaping, and the community's shared infrastructure. Every owner pays HOA dues. The HOA has nothing to do with the club.
Medalist Village Club is a separate membership organization. Joining is optional. The club sets its own dues and its own categories, and the club's website lists membership tiers with a golf option and a social option. Availability is limited and not guaranteed by owning a home, so if the club is the reason you are buying, confirm with the membership office that a membership is available before you go under contract, not after.
The community also has a one-time contribution due at purchase. The amount and how much of it comes back to you at resale are set by the association and change over time. Get the current figures from the HOA documents during your due diligence period, and have your closing attorney confirm them.
Ask us for the current HOA figures, the current club dues, and the current capital contribution. We will get them from the source rather than from a listing.
Medalist Village is on Hobe Sound's west side, off SE Bridge Road. That puts it a few minutes from the beach at Hobe Sound and the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, a few minutes from Jonathan Dickinson State Park and the Loxahatchee River, and a straight shot north to downtown Stuart's restaurants and waterfront in about 20 minutes. Jupiter is about 15 minutes south. Palm Beach International is under an hour.
Hobe Sound itself is a quiet, unincorporated coastal town with an Old Florida feel and very little commercial sprawl. Buyers who want a walkable downtown with dining and nightlife tend to look at Stuart. Buyers who want quiet, nature, and space tend to land in Hobe Sound, and Medalist Village is one of the few gated options in town with a club on site. (Our Hobe Sound neighborhoods guide covers the beach and preserve options too.)
It fits the golfer who wants to play every day without a four-hour commitment. The family with kids learning the game. The retiree who wants tennis, a spa, and a pub within a golf cart ride. The buyer who values a preserve lot and a small community where the gate guard knows your name. And the second-home buyer who wants a club that is relaxed about what you wear to dinner.
It does not fit the buyer who wants a championship 18-hole course attached to their home. For that, in Martin County, look at Loblolly or Willoughby in Hobe Sound and Stuart, or the Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter clubs covered in our golf guide. And it does not fit anyone who is buying here to get into Medalist Golf Club. That door does not open from the neighborhood.
Medalist Village | Loblolly (Hobe Sound) | Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens clubs | |

If you own in Medalist Village, the two-club distinction is your friend, not your problem. Say plainly what the Village Club offers and that membership is optional. Buyers who want a casual club with a short course and no tee times are a specific, motivated group, and they respond to accurate copy. Vague "Medalist" references bring in the wrong buyer and waste showings. Lead with the preserve lot, the club, and the drive times. If you are thinking about selling, ask us for a value review that accounts for the current club availability and the community's small inventory.
